Not keen on the 24 hour bus ride to Santiago we broke it up by catching a 15 hours bus to La Serena instead. I am sure my blogs are always about our transport but when travelling and always on the go, half of the fun is in the journey and the rides. This time it wasn't particularly interesting. Back in a developed country we were actually able to sleep in our comfy, wide seats without being jolted awaken by crashing into a truck or from the giant potholes in the road like some of our other adventurous bus trips. There was even a working bathroom on board. An uneventful bus ride meant we were able to enjoy our first day in La Serena rather then walking around in a zombie like state.
The plan for La Serena was to either drive out to Elqui Valley and visit the pisco boutiques
and wineries or go out on an observatory tour and check out the stars. After choking on the price for the pisco tours and having already had seen the Peruvian pisco distilleries I thought I would save the wineries until we got further south around Santiago and Valparaiso. The weather was also not in our favour for the observatory tours with grey clouds and mist rolling in from over the Pacific.
